The American Academy of Nursing (AAN) has just released a health literacy policy brief co-authored by Dr. Terri Ann Parnell. The policy brief urges nurses to have an increased role in enhancing health literacy for patient populations. A “Call for Action: Nurses Must Play a Critical Role to Enhance Health Literacy,” was published in the January/February 2018 issue of the Academy’s journal, Nursing Outlook (Volume 66, Issue 1) and is focused on influencing policy in three domains—practice, systems of care, and partnerships—to minimize the gap between patient skills and abilities and the demands and complexities of health care systems. Please share with your nursing colleagues and read the full brief here.
